IT was hostile to Israel and allied to other Arab states.

Explanation:

The relationship of Egypt with these countries prior to Camp David reflected the traditional position within the Arab Israeli conflict.

After the establishment of Israel in 1948, there were a series of major conflicts between Israel and her Arab neighbours. These included the first Arab-Israeli war in 1948, Suez in 56, the Six Day War in 67 and Yom Kippur in 73.

There had also been a short period of time when Egypt and Syria had become one state, the United Arab Republic.

After Yom Kippur, Sadat the Egyptian President concluded that Egypt,s future lay with the USA not as previously had been the case with the Soviet Union.

Camp David reflected this. IT was hailed in the West as a breakthrough in the Arab-Israeli conflict but critics saw it as an expansion of US hegemony in the Middle East.
