Explanation:

It is me, in daily lives, many Americans say so. But in standard writing lives it is not correct.

The rule is
After the copulative ( auxiliary verb you need a SUBJECT pronoun)
So, it is I, is correct version.

Same---they are US, WRONG.

write--they are we.

or a bit different angle--

He is taller than me---Wrong.

He is taller than ( conjunction, you need a new clause for a subject pronoun) I (am).

He is taller than I. correct version.
