Explanation:

Cystic fibrosis is caused by a recessive mutant allele on an autosomal chromosome( chromosome 7). So since it is inherited from the parents, it occurs by birth.

The gene produces a unique glycoprotein that leads to formation of mucus of abnormally high viscosity.

This mucus accumulates in the lungs, n hence make it susceptible to infections. The liver and pancreas show impaired functions and produce less bile and digestive enzymes respectively. Hence it affects both the digestive tract and lungs.
