Do America ever have a communist leader?

1 Answer

If by "America", you mean the "USA", then no. If you are asking about the Americas (North, Central, and South), then the answer is yes.

Explanation:

If by "America" you are asking about the United States of America, then the answer is no.

While there have been many efforts over the years to paint political opponents as Communist, and a very famous effort back in the 1950s by Senator Joe McCarthy era called the Red Scare - more about that here:

the USA has never had a communist leader.

The closest that I am aware of to anyone holding that label is Bernie Sanders who at least was, if not still is, a Socialist.

There is a Communist political party in the USA (more about them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_Party_USA).

If by "America" the question is about the Americas - North, Central, and South, then the answer is yes - countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua, and El Salvador have had Communist leaders (in Central America) and Venezuela in South America.
