Pharynx is the membrane-lined cavity behind the nose and mouth, connecting them to the esophagus

Explanation:

As mentioned above 'It is a membrane' so it doesn't really help in physical digestion however it is part of our alimentary canal.
physical digestion is more of breakdown of the food by the movement of the organs such as in mouth.
Pharynx does not perform breakdown of food function it's just a membrane at the back of our cavity.
