Stem cells.

Explanation:

Stem cells have all the genetic material any part of your body needs, but is not specialised to do anything specific. It can then develop to become a certain kind of cell, however all cells in the body, including the organs, came from stem cells.

The best anecdote I can give is of a brilliant child before he goes to university - capable of becoming anything, however is currently totally useless in any specific job.
