Female pelvis is wider which is an adaptation for child birth.
Male pelvis is adapted for faster locomotion.
Explanation:
Sex of a skeleton is determined by studying the shape of pelvis.
Anatomically pelvic girdle is made of two identical bony elements, called os innominata. Each os innominatum is made of three primary embryonic bony pieces: ilium, ischium and pubis .
Pubis of both sides join at cartilagenous pubic symphysis. In a pregnant female, the joint will stretch and the gap between the pubis bones increases considerably during child birth. Pubic joint in female is called pubic arch.
