Depending on their severity, lifestyle changes, compression stockings, and surgical procedures are treatment strategies.

Explanation:

If varicose veins are in their early stages, a few lifestyle changes like exercise, losing weight, reducing long periods of standing or sitting, elevating legs prevent their aggravation.

Compression stockings that apply even and constant pressure help the veins move blood more efficiently.

If the varicose veins are more severe, there are different surgical options, most of which are OPD surgeries.

These include:

  • Sclerotherapy - the injection of a solution to close the veins after which they disappear over time.
  • Laser surgery to close the veins.
  • Catheter-assisted surgery that uses an inserted catheter to close the veins using heat.
  • Ligation and stripping in which the vein is ligated before it meets a larger vein and removed.
