How can natural gas be conserved?
More efficient technologies, like high efficiency furnaces, is the most promising option for natural gas conservation. More efficient use of natural gas also lowers greenhouse gases.
However, right now, there is so much natural gas available in North America, at a low price of around $1.80 GJ that no one is really talking about conserving natural gas. Horizontal drilling and fracking has discovered huge reserves of natural gas in shale formations, so the need for conservation is mostly restricted to the aspect of reducing greenhouse gas emissions once NG is burned.
Underground storage in geological formations is sometimes used for short-term storage of natural gas.
