How can water resources in the US be increased?

There are really only two alternatives, as we cannot move global weather systems.

Explanation:

The first is to extract more from the aquifers (not a very good idea, it’s a finite resource) or to use water more efficiently (a very good idea.) Sadly, water is regarded as ‘free’ in our economic system until it is treated by a water company. This is unsustainable in the relatively short term.

Graphene may potentially help with this problem at it only allows pure water to pass through it. Bacteria and other particulates are simply too large to fit through the ‘mesh’ of carbon atoms. In time we may develop closed water systems based on this technology.
