How did James Watt contribute to the Industrial Revolution?
James Watt revolutionised the steam engine.
James Watt (1736-1819) was an inventor around the time of the Industrial Revolution. His greatest accomplishment was the creation of the modern steam engine.
Watt realised that latent heat loss was greatly affecting the trains used at the time. He discovered that engines could be more efficient if condensation was conserved in a distinct chamber. When he met English scientist John Roebuck, the two created a partnership in 1768 on the basis of Watt's miraculous new invention. In 1769, Watt took out a patent on his design and it quickly became incorporated throughout the industrialising world.
Watt's invention came fortunately at a time when there was an enormous need to train transportation. As the Industrial Revolution occurred, there was massive demand because materials, goods, and workers were being transported across the country to fuel the construction and progress. Watt's work made trains vastly more efficient and therefore was widely adopted.
Watt became incredibly wealthy and retired in 1800. He died in August of 1819. Because of his contributions to the field of science and engineering, a measurement of electrical and mechanical power - the watt - is named in his honour.
