Between 1900 and 1999 technology changed warfare into a more abstract less human contract form.

Explanation:

In the beginning of World War I there were bayonet charges and hand to hand combat. Later long range artillery, machine guns, mustard gas, airplanes, and tanks made it possible to kill the enemy without ever seeing the combatant as a person.

At the end of the 20th century tomahawk missile, early drones, laser guided bombs, and intercontinental missiles further increased the impersonalization of warfare.

In the 21 century warfare might become more like a video game. The combatants directing robots from a keypad thousands of miles from the actual battlefield.

Technology has made killing people easier not only because of the power of the technology but because killing people has become less personal.
