It led to a tremndous increase of the standard of living.

Explanation:

The fifties were nicknamed "the Golden Age" of America because things seemed to be perfect for the USA, economic prosperity and international glory for fighting Communism and defeating Nazism.

In the fifties there was a general increase of the standard of living and American families enjoyed "The American Way of Life" with the development of consumer society. Families earned enough money with only one salary( the father's salary), one-parent families were rare as divorce rate was low.

That situation changed in the seventies since inflation and gas prices soared even as unemployment rose as well. The prosperity did not affect some families living on ghettos(among minorities) and in secluded rural areas, the latter were invisible to the emerginf Middle Class.
