I think that come to an end with the great naval battle of Tsushima (27-28 May 1905).

The battle sealed the fate of the Russian Baltic fleet sent by the Czar Nicholas II to relieve the besieged fortress of Port Arthur (on the Pacific) and forced Russia to sue for peace.

The tragic irony of the situation was that when finally the Baltic Fleet reached and engaged the Japanese fleet Port Arthur had already fallen!

The Baltic Fleet demoralized and worn out after the long trip was basically slaughtered during the battle.
