Brache and Kepler used detailed observations and mathematical analysis of the the data.
Explanation:
Tycho Brahe took extensive observations of the solar system and the movement of the planets. Kepler added to the those observations and successfully found a mathematical formula to explain the observations.
Kepler was convinced that the Solar system had been created by an intelligent God and so should be understandable. He worked until he found a mathematical model that explained the observations.
