Gravity

Explanation:

Gravity is the simple answer. Just like stars and planets, gravity is the fundamental source of energy for quasars. When you are taking about the masses involved, gravity is so strong that it is actually what causes the fusion in stars the same as it does for quasars. The major difference is where a star has it's super dense core, a quasar has a black hole.
