How do solve the following linear system?: x-y=2 , x+2y=5 ?

Mar 10, 2016

The solution for the system of equations is:
color(blue)(x =3

color(blue)(y=1

Explanation:

$\textcolor{b l u e}{x} - y = 2$...........equation $\left(1\right)$

$\textcolor{b l u e}{x} + 2 y = 5$.........equation $\left(2\right)$

Solving by elimination
Subtracting equation $\left(2\right)$ from $\left(1\right)$

$\cancel{\textcolor{b l u e}{x}} - y = 2$
$- \cancel{\textcolor{b l u e}{x}} - 2 y = - 5$

$- 3 y = - 3$

$y = \frac{- 3}{-} 3$

color(blue)(y=1

Finding $x$ from equation $1$:
$x - y = 2$

$x = 2 + y$

$x = 2 + 1$

color(blue)(x =3
