Before birth of a baby it receives blood through placental cord. Blood gases and circulation is fulfilled through mother's blood.

Explanation:

Heart of baby carries blood from placental cord. In septum of the heart there is aperture. Through this aperture blood from placental cord is mixed in all four chambers of heart.
When baby is borne the first cry enlarges lungs. This first cry fills alveolar cavity. This is known as first breath.
This makes lungs functional for the first time.
The septal aperture closes after birth causes to start double circulation.
