# How do you add sqrt(10) + sqrt(10)?

Apr 17, 2015

Think at the two squares as 2 similar objects that, as $x$, can be added giving $x + x = 2 x$ so:
$\sqrt{10} + \sqrt{10} = 2 \sqrt{10} =$
now $2$ can "enter" into the root:
$= \sqrt{4 \cdot 10} = \sqrt{40}$
