Potash is a common name for potassium compounds that may be primarily #KCl or K_2CO_3#. In either case direct FTIR measurements can be obtained by use of a metal press to fabricate a solid disk of the material sufficiently thin to be used in an FTIR analyzer. A mixture of the analyte salt and KBr may also be used to prepare the analytical sample disk.
