#4 3/11# can be written as as improper fraction #47/11#

Explanation:

A mixed fraction has three components.

(1) Complete integer / natural number, here we have #4# which is a complete number

then we have fractional part and here it is #3/11#, and

(2) we have numerator as #3#

and (3) the denominator, which is #11#, in the given example.

If we have any such mixed fraction of this type i.e. #a b/c#,

to convert it into improper fraction,

multiply denominator (3) and complete number (1) and add numerator (2) to it. In #a b/c#, we get #axxc+b#

and improper fraction is #(axxc+b)/c#.

In case of #4 3/11#, it is #(4xx11+3)/11=47/11# as improper fraction.

Explanation:

Given:#" "4 3/11#

Just for convenience of understanding write as #" "4+3/11 #

Multiply by 1 and you do not change the final value. However, 1 comes in many forms so you can change the way it looks without changing the actual value.

Multiply by 1 but in the form of #1=11/11#

#" "color(green)([4color(red)(xx1)]+3/11)" "->" "color(green)([4color(red)(xx11/11)]+3/11#
