# How do you find the domain and range of y=3x+1?

Mar 8, 2018

Domain: $\mathbb{R}$ (all Real numbers)
Range: $\mathbb{R}$ (all Real numbers)

#### Explanation:

$y = 3 x + 1$ is defined for all Real values of $x$; therefore the Domain is all Real values.

Re-arranging as $\frac{y - 1}{3} = x$, we can see that this is also defined for all Real values of $y$; therefore the Range is all Real values.

(Note that in actual fact, the Domain and Range cover all Complex values too).
