# How do you find the slope and y intercept for 8x+3y= -9?

May 26, 2015

A linear equation is in the form of:

$y = m x + c$

where $m$ = gradient (or slope) and $c$ = intercept

To find slope and intercept of :

$8 x + 3 y = - 9$

First, make y the subject of the equation :

$3 y = - 8 x - 9$

Divide both sides by 3 :

$y = - \frac{8}{3} x - 3$

Here $m = - \frac{8}{3}$ and $c = - 3$
