# How do you multiply (0.2y+1.7)^2?

Dec 24, 2016

Can do this much only! I hope u find what is needed.

$= 0.04 {y}^{2} + 0.68 y + 2.89$

#### Explanation:

${\left(0.2 y + 1.7\right)}^{2}$

$= \left(0.2 y + 1.7\right) \left(0.2 y + 1.7\right)$

$= 0.04 {y}^{2} + 0.34 y + 0.34 y + 2.89$

$= 0.04 {y}^{2} + 0.68 y + 2.89$

Or as shown above, using the 'short cut' identity:

${\left(a + b\right)}^{2} = {a}^{2} + 2 a b + {b}^{2}$

${\left(0.2 y + 1.7\right)}^{2}$

$= 0.04 {y}^{2} + 0.68 y + 2.89$

Terms are usually arranged in descending order of the powers.
