Apr 21, 2016

Metric system is in decimals (base $10$) notation and hence very easy to calculate. Further, it uses standard names for different powers of $10$ and hence easy to remember.

#### Explanation:

Metric system is easiest to remember. At the central level we have units like

gram for weight
meter for length
*liter for volume

And then ten times are decagram, decameter, decaliter
hundred times is hectogram, hectometer, hectoliter
thousand times is kilogram, kilometer, kiloliter

one-tenth is decigram, decimeter, deciliter
one-hundredth is centigram, centimeter, centiliter
one-thousandth is milligram, millimeter, mililiter

Apart from this, mega is one million times ${10}^{6}$
Giga is one billion times ${10}^{9}$
Micro is one-millionth ${10}^{-} 6$
Nano is one-billionth ${10}^{-} 9$
Pico is ${10}^{-} 12$
Femto is ${10}^{-} 15$
