# How do you simplify 4 sqrt x^2?

$4 \sqrt{{x}^{2}} = 4 | x |$

Since the x under the root is a square, it can come out. But since everything that comes out of a root must be 0 or positive, the absolute value bar must be there.

If we know that $x \ge 0$ you can ditch the bar.
