# How do you simplify 9^2times3^-2?

Jan 3, 2017

Figure out that ${9}^{2}$ is equal to 81.

Since a negative exponent gives you the reciprocal of the number to the absolute value of the exponent (for example ${5}^{-} 2$ is equal to 1/25 or 0.04) use this to solve ${3}^{-} 2$. This is equal to 1/9

Then, you can just multiply $81 \times \frac{1}{9}$ which is 9.

Hope this helps!
