The equation can be rearranged. An equation can be changed and will still be true, if the change is applied to both sides of the #=# sign.

Our aim is to rearrange the equation to say # x = # something

Therefore we can add #x# to both sides;

#2-x=11 #

becomes

# 2-x+x = 11+x #

This can be rewritten as

# 2 = 11 + x #

Now we take #11# from both sides

# 2 - 11 = x #

Therefore;

# x = -9 #
