$2 x - 8 < 7$

Adding 8 to both sides will give us:

$2 x - \cancel{8} + \cancel{8} < 7 + 8$

$2 x < 15$

Dividing both sides by 2 will give us:

$\frac{\cancel{2} x}{\cancel{2}} < \frac{15}{2}$

$x < \frac{15}{2}$
