# How do you solve -3p = 5p - 4?

Oct 22, 2017

First, transfer $5 p$ to LHS as we want all variables on one side and all numbers on the other,
while transferring, if the number is in (+) it will be in (-) which is the case here,
so, the first step will be,
$- 3 p - 5 p = - 4$
Subtracting $- 3 p$ from $- 5 p$
$- 8 p = - 4$
The minuses(-) cut each other,
$\cancel{-} 8 p = \cancel{-} 4$
$8 p = 4$
4 is divided by the 8 on LHS, it will be divided because it is in multiplication here(just like the upper case scenario, it always inverses)
$p = \frac{4}{8}$
$p = \frac{1}{2}$
or,
$p = 0.5$
