If an equation has ONLY one term on each side and at least one is a fraction, you can get rid of the fractions by cross-multiplying.

#(5x)/7=8/9#

#5x xx9 = 7xx 8#

#5x = 56/9#

#x = 56/(9xx5) = 56/45#

This does not simplify and a fraction answer is better than decimal which would recur.
