# How do you solve by completing the square x^2+2x=5?

the equation is in the form of $a {x}^{2} + b x + c = d$
to complete a square we divide ${\left(\frac{b}{2}\right)}^{2}$ and substitute it for $c$, and add/subtract the same on the other side with $d$.
then solve for $x$
${x}^{2} + 2 x + 1 = 5 + 1$
${\left(x + 1\right)}^{2} = 6$
