Solve y = p^2 - 12p - 69 = -5
Ans: -4 and 16
Explanation:
y = p^2 - 12p - 64 = 0
I use the new Transforming method (Socratic search).
Find 2 numbers (real roots) knowing sum (-b = 12) and product (c = -64). Roots have opposite signs (Rule of Signs).
Factor pairs of (-64) --> (-2, 32)(-4, 16). This sum is (-4 + 16 = 12 = -b). Therefor, the 2 real roots are: -4 and 16.
