# How do you solve the system of equations -4x - 7y = 7 and - 2x + y = 17?

Dec 14, 2016

$x = - 7 , y = 3$

Ignore the extra writing that is separated from the writing in the middle by lines. I use a sheet of paper for multiple maths equations.

#### Explanation:

(I couldn't fit this on my paper)
We can check the answer by plugging in both x and y values into either one (or both) of the original equations.

In both cases, after solving, you'll find that, when x= -7 and y=3, the solution for the equations is 7=7 and 17=17, which is want we want.

(Note that I wrote x=7 on the bottom when in fact x= -7).
