# How do you use square roots to solve quadratic equations?

Nov 3, 2014

Let us solve the following quadratic equation.

${x}^{2} - 6 x + 7 = 0$

${x}^{2} - 6 x + 9 = 2$

${\left(x - 3\right)}^{2} = 2$

by taking the square-root,

$x - 3 = \pm \sqrt{2}$

$x = 3 \pm \sqrt{2}$
