# How do you write the equation in point slope form given x-intercept of -4 and a y-intercept of -1?

May 22, 2018

Given the x and y intercepts, we know two points of the line;

(-4,0), and (0,-1).

We can use these points to find the slope of the line using the slope formula.

$\frac{- 1 - 0}{0 - \left(- 4\right)} = - \frac{1}{4}$

Now that we have both the slope and y-intercept, we can write our equation.

$y = m x + b$

$y = - \frac{1}{4} x - 4$
