There are a lot of ways to arrive at this answer. I think the easiest way is like so:

${3}^{x} = 64$

take the ${\log}_{3}$ of both sides

${\log}_{3} \left({3}^{x}\right) = {\log}_{3} \left(64\right)$

Since ${\log}_{3} \left({3}^{x}\right) = x$,

$x = {\log}_{3} \left(64\right)$
