The two factors that contribute to biodiversity are the richness in the number of different species available in the ecosystem, or the richness in the number of individuals of the one species.
This is because each species has a role in the ecosystem on which other organisms depend for survival. If there is a big umber of different species it means that if one species disappears for a reason or another there is still may more to depend on for the proper functioning of the ecosystem.
The same applies to the number of organisms o the one species, if we have a big number it means that if some are lost due to whatever the reason, there are still many more individuals of this type to depend on.Moreover, when there is a big number of individuals of one species, it means that most probably the genetic pool is very diverse and hence there is a chance for at least part of this population to survive the change in the environment.
