All living things are made of elements, molecules, and compounds. Metabolism is the sum total of all the chemical reactions that occur within the cells of living things.

Chemistry is fundamental to truly understanding biology.

Explanation:

The basis of most life on earth is photosynthesis. This is a complex chemical reaction ( memorize and try to understand the Citric acid cycle that results in the synthesis of glucose) the biochemistry of which requires a deep understanding of chemistry.

Equally important is the process of cellular respiration again understanding the Kreb's cycle ( not just memorizing it ) requires chemistry.

We now know that the DNA is a chemically based information code. Studying genetics without an understanding of chemistry is recede into the 1860s in terms of biological knowledge.

The curriculum in most high schools is inside down.. Physics should come first ( providing the students have sufficient understanding of math) Then chemistry should be the next science studied. Biology should come last biology is now best studied as an application of chemistry.
