Liberalizing the economy had a violent impact in the beginning but economic growth and standards of living have substantially increased. Nevertheless some countries are still lesser priviledged especiallly in comparison with Western Europe. Nolstagia for communism can also be found especially among elderly people mostly because of the social protection provided by the government which is now inexistent.
