Explanation:
As electrons are passed between different proteins in the inner membrane of a mitochondrion, they force Hydrogen ions (protons) to one side of the membrane, forming a concentration gradient. As protons move down their gradient through the channel protein ATP Synthase, large amounts of ATP are formed.
