z = 149 million km

The distance to an object in space can be calculated if you know the time light from that object takes to reach the Earth and Vice Versa. This can be given by the formula

#z = c*t#

z is the distance to the object.
c is the speed of light.
t is the time for light to reach Earth.

As we know that light from the Sun takes roughly about 8.3 minutes to reach the Earth, so t is 8 minutes and 19 seconds, which is 499 seconds.

#z = c * t#
#z = 3 # x # 10^8 * 499#
#z = 149 700 000 000 m#

z = 149 million km
