# How many microstates are possible for a molecule?

Jun 4, 2018

Usually ${10}^{6}$ ~ ${10}^{10}$ PER MOLECULE at $\text{298.15 K}$. But at any temperature, ANY integer is possible from $1$ to infinity (given that they must be countable).

• I go over what microstates are, here.
• An example that should be easy to follow is here.
• A simple example on ${\text{O}}_{2}$ is here.
• A much more detailed calculation example with methane is gone into here.
