Alka-Seltzer is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) medication that reduces inflammation by blocking an enzyme within our bodies called the COX enzyme. The Cox enzyme in involved in making substances within our bodies called prostaglandins, which have a big hand in causing pain, inflammation and otherwise known as -- the ouchies in response to our injuries. reducing production of prostaglandins. Alka-Seltzer, aka Aspirin, lowers our pain levels by reducing the prodiction of substances called prostaglandins.
Alka-Seltzer can be taken for intestinal disturbances such as nuasea, vomiting, diarhea, gut pain or mild heart burn after eating a meal.
However, if taken too often or of taken when already having a predisposing medical issue, ulceration or bleeding within the intestine or stomach could occur.
