How might the history of Korea have been different if United Nations forces had not stepped in to oppose the North Korean invasion in 1950?

This is one of the ever difficult "what if" history questions but....quite interesting indeed.

Explanation:

The obvious answer is that Korea would be completely under Communist Rule of the Kim dynasty; but there is an interesting hypotetical twist to it.
If the North Korean military thrust has not been challenged the entire peninsula would have been conquered.

Now, consider that the firm and inexorable grip of the Kim dynasty on the northern part of Korea is based mainly upon the idea that one day the two Koreas will be re-united (through war and possibly with a lot of violence!) and that all the people of the north must be united against the terrible Americans.
Now, without these excuses I wonder if the Kim(s) would have been able to maintain their country under their control through a perpetual military dictatorship justified by fear of the Americans and hope of war for re-union.
