No one knows.

Explanation:

There are three theories. The end of the galaxy as regards to a light emitting source will come earlier than the below but it figures into the end of the universe.

  1. The universe is expanding and at some point in the multiple of trillions of years after every star has been created, every star will finally blink out. What is left will be lots of dead stars and other material.

  2. The universe will continue to expand. The force of dark energy will cause everything in the universe to rip apart into its most elemental bits, they do not say what those bit are, but at that point it will end.

  3. The gravitational pull of dark matter will cause the universe's expansion to slow down and then go into reverse where at some point the universe will look a lot like the very early universe only this time it will be collapsing in upon itself.
