Well, you could prepare it with difficulty and much pfaff....

So one way, is to make the acyl halide, and then react this species with a Grignard in the presence of copper salts....(the which makes some less active organocopper reagent, which adds to acyl halides).

#H_3C-CO_2H + SOCl_2rarrH_3C-C(=O)Cl + SO_2+HCl#

#H_3C-C(=O)Cl +H_3CMgCl stackrel(Cu^+, Cu^(2+))rarr H_3C-C(=O)CH_3#

But why make it when you can buy acetone for next to nothing.....?
