How was slavery that existed in Arica different from the transatlantic slave trade?

Basically slaves in the past tended to be those who were enslaved through unfortunate circumstances, Prisoners of War, Debtors and the like. Slaves in the Americas began to be viewed as inferiors.

Explanation:

Islamic teachings encouraged wage labor but slaves were still common. Islamic teaching encouraged the freeing of slaves who were Muslim. Although slaves in Africa were recognized to have less rights they were still human beings who for whatever reason had fallen on hard times.

In Ghana slave women were sometimes preferred wives as the children would stay with the husband's family in marriage disputes not to wife's as was the normal custom.

The Transatlantic Slave trade changed how slaves were viewed. They often became view inferior beings. Children of slaves were slaves. Slaves were a race of lesser beings.
