The right ventricle (5) pumps the blood into the pulmonary artery (7) which makes a very short journey to the lungs.

The left ventricle (12) pumps blood to the aorta (14) which then travels out to the remainder of the body. The force necessary to push the blood out into the body requires the muscular wall of the left ventricle to much more developed.
