For convinces sake lets say f(x) is y:

#y = 5x + 12#

To find the inverse of the function, swap x and y and solve for y again.

#x = 5y + 12#

Subtract 12 on both sides:
#x - 12 = 5y#

Divide by 5:
#y = (x - 12) / (5)#

So #f^(-1)(x) = (x-12)/(5)#
